Have you ever been ambushed by God’s love – by having an ordinary moment turn into the extraordinary?  God’s been doing that for me lately, drenching me in His love when I least expect it, but I’ve also been seeking it out more. Maybe that’s why I’m seeing it more?  Perhaps I’m seeing what’s always been there but I’ve finally slowed down enough to see it…not rushing right through it in my quest to pursue it.

My daughter Sydney and I were snuggled up in bed.  We had just finished reading Twas the Night Before Christmas and I had been being very silly with her with her little Christmas elf.  He was being very naughty and kept interrupting Sydney as she was reading the story so she and I just kept bursting out into giggles.  The moment already seemed pretty special and I was in a place to savor the now instead of rushing through our time together.

I had bought this book a few years back and it had gotten lost in Sydney’s book cabinet (we have a LOT of books). So I randomly pulled it out and told Sydney, “These are letters from Father God to you. Did you know that you are His princess?” This look of wonder came over her face.  I could tell it was a Holy moment for her.  In wonderment she looked at me and in a whisper said, “You mean God wrote those letters just for me?”

I wanted to be careful with my words, not do anything to take away from her feeling like the most special little girl in the whole wide world. “Well, God gave these words to a lady that felt called to put these letters into a book for little girls like you.  And God knew that on this day, you would see this book and on this day you would read the letter we are about to read. So you see, other little girls may get this book but on different days and God knows the day that you need to see each letter from Him to you. On this day, this is what he wants to say to you.” She looked at me in awe and handed me the book and sweetly said, “Please read me the letter” with all the reverence the moment deserved.

After I read the letter and the prayer to go with it she carefully took the book, laid it open on her chest, closed her eyes and hugged it to her.  I could tell it was a moment of gratitude that her Father and King would find her so special, that she felt seen and treasured and cherished, that she felt guided and who knows what other things she was feeling.  I know that in that moment I became seven-year-old Joanna and was feeling all of those things!

I read somewhere that by the time a child is seven years old their personality and sense of self is pretty much locked in.  Their personality has formed.  It has been formed based on their life experiences up to that point.  Their view of the world has shaped their emotional state and I can tell you from personal experience that I have found this to be so accurate.

I have experienced firsthand how the enemy of this world has come in to the lives of so many at such tender young ages wreaking havoc and destruction on their tender young lives, and so I have begun to pray over my life and the lives of my children. “Lord raise up my identity that you called me to. Transform me into who you created me to be. I call forth the identity of my children, their identity before pain and rejection began to work against their true identity that you have called them to.”  God is not limited by space or time and He can go back in time to bring forth our identities of the innocent, unwounded, uncorrupted children of God He called us to be!

Each of needs to know we are seen, and that He truly hears us.  And don’t we all seek those moments where we KNOW He is speaking directly TO us.  Don’t we all NEED to know that we truly are special in HIS eyes.  ME, God is speaking directly to ME.  Wow, I must be the most important little girl in the whole wide world!  My Daddy is the most important Daddy EVER.  He is God!  He formed the earth.  He made me.  He loves me unconditionally! Isn’t this what we are all crying out for?  If you can see the letters in my pictures, please read from the place of the little girl He is speaking to and know that He is not limited by time or space and perhaps you too were supposed to read those words on this day and to feel seen, spoken to, guided and cherished by Your King and Father in Heaven.

Scriptures for Meditation

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
