Holy Spirit Revelation

I’m constantly amazed at all of the ways God will choose to reveal himself to us when we pray, “Lord give me eyes to see and ears to hear your voice.  What do you want to show me today?”

As we are cleaning up the kitchen, getting dressed, running errands, or going about our other various daily tasks, the Holy Spirit whispers to us and reveals God’s love, provision and direction.

His Word promises that if we seek Him, He will be faithful to reveal himself to us.  Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart.”

In our process of laying down self and growing in trust, we begin to hear His voice, feel His love and find ourselves talking to Him throughout our day.

Several weeks ago I kept noticing wind….like really noticing it.  I was hyper sensitive to the presence of wind and I could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit speaking to me.

As I walked around my yard I could hear it rustling the leaves in the trees.  This was the most soothing sound to my soul! It sounded as though God was breathing out on the world around me.  I could feel it as it blew against my skin and it felt like a hug from God.

Driving down the road one day, I could see it blowing the trees on either side of the road and was struck by the visual image the wind was presenting to me as the trees on either side of the road bowed in toward each other.  Back and forth the branches went up and down on the currents of the wind and it seemed to me that I was witnessing God’s creation bowing down in worship of His presence.

A few days after my amazing experience in the midst of my everyday tasks, the Holy Spirit suddenly began speaking to me about wind and so I ran and grabbed my journal and quickly wrote down what He spoke into my spirit:

Wind…no one sees the wind yet it exists.  You know it is there because you can feel it and you can see it’s movement by the stirring of what it touches.  It can blow gently or it can blow in a rushing power, stirring things up and completely transforming a landscape.  It can be a cooling breeze on a hot summer day or a gentle caress on your cheek during a hectic day.  It can direct and be a current for travel, carrying us to new destinations.  The wind can extinguish a spark or fan a flame, depending on the circumstances.  Is there material to burn?  The Holy Spirit is like the wind in all these ways.  No one knows where the wind comes from or where it goes.  No one can see it but oh how can we feel it! Let me be like a bird God, flying freely on the current of your wind.

A month later I’ve come back to that journal entry because I can see that Holy Spirit was teaching me about himself. I pray that as you meditate on the scriptures for this blog post and are led by Holy Spirit in your own personal time in the Word and prayer, that he will impart to you revelations and guidance and that you will feel the presence of the Lord in a powerful way.

Lord, help us to continue to grow to know you in a more intimate way – daily! Give us eyes to see what you want us to see and ears to hear what you are speaking to us.  Help us to seek you with all of our hearts.  Help us to give you all of our hearts without holding anything back from you.  Only as we make ourselves vulnerable to you and surrender our desire to control can we give you all of our heart.  We’re asking for more of you and less of us.  Holy Spirit, thank you for coming as a gentle wind, a mighty wind, a soothing wind…directing us to where God wants us.

Scriptures for Meditation

Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

~ John 3:6-8

22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

~ John 20:22

because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

~ Romans 8:2-6

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.

~ Acts 2:1-5

19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. 21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

24 As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.

26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.

~ 1 John 2:19-27

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
