I encourage you to press in and read on to receive the blessing of the following blog post on the dangers of trusting our feelings and how to overcome the lies of the enemy – Praise, Prayer & Truth!

My first born son is 5 years old and I remember a couple days after his birth when all I could do was give thanks to God for this new found love. When I found out I was pregnant, to say I was in shock was an understatement. I wasn’t merely in shock but I was upset. People would ask about my pregnancy and I would just look at them and say, “I never wanted kids.”

Looking back, I regret those words and I regret that attitude. Especially now, looking at my testimony about a year after he was born of trying to have another child for nearly three years and being unable to conceive. And when I mean trying to have a child, I mean we were really trying!

With each negative pregnancy test my heart would grow a little fainter and the enemy would attempt to make my faith a little weaker. We wanted so badly for my son to have another sibling (I also have an 11 year old bonus daughter that doesn’t live with us full time).

The Power of Prayer & Trust

Yes, I went from not wanting kids to praying and begging God for more. God took my lack of desire and somehow transformed it into a deep desire and in having this desire, He taught me much. He taught me that there are many things we can do nothing about in our own strength aside from dedicating ourselves to prayer and trusting God.

There was nothing I could do in my own strength to produce life in my womb. It had to be God to breathe life.

He taught me that everyone has a journey and I should be thankful for mine.

During my first pregnancy, I didn’t recognize that many people desire so badly to have children but they can’t or God may have them in the “waiting season.” That’s a tough place to be.

Feelings Are Not Truth

God says “delight yourself in me and I will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4).” But what do you do when the desires aren’t being fulfilled even when you feel as though you’re doing your part?

If you’re not careful, you can begin to believe lies the enemy will whisper to you in that season.

He can make you angry and bitter.

He can make you jealous and resentful.

The Bible instructs us to carefully guard our hearts of such feelings (Proverbs 4:23). The Word of God also states that, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it (Jeremiah 17:9)?”

Feelings are not truth. You have to push through the brokenness and loneliness you feel. You have to persevere, allowing trust and faith to see you through. You have to press deeper into God’s truth, His word, to get you through each day. You have to keep Godly perspective and realize your blessings in the midst of feeling cursed.

Eternal Perspective

And as you do this, you have to keep your heart focused on the eternal, not the temporal. When eternity is your focus, God will be there. He will see you through. I want to say that He will bless you and provide you with the desires of your heart, and often times He will but sometimes He won’t on this side of earth.

Sometimes, perhaps, your treasures will simply await in Heaven. But you have to trust that He knows best.

If you are in that “waiting season,” don’t give up. Do not give in to the tactics and lies of the enemy. Recognize the attacks of Satan and fight. Put on the armor of God and stand firm for His truth. Get in your bible and read, read, and read some more.

Cry out to God. Cry out in frustration. Cry out in anger. Cry out in desperation. Cry out to Him with your feelings and know that He is listening.

He loves a broken and contrite heart. He will receive. He will hear the cry of your heart and answer you, in His timing and in His way. Crank up the worship music. Praise God in the frustration. Satan can’t live in an environment of praise (2 Chronicles 20:22).

Praise God in the midst of heart ache. As you do these things, God will honor your honesty and He will answer your prayers.

Our Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to recognize the voice of the enemy and believe the truth of Your Words over my own feelings. Allow me to discern how to best represent you in this world and live out your Word as a disciple of Christ. In Jesus’ beautiful Name, Amen

Scriptures for Meditation

~ Proverbs 4:23

Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life.

~ Psalm 37:4-6

Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday.

~ 2 Chronicles 20:22

As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.
